When Can You Order Your Next Motability Car?

Your current Motability lease may be coming to an end, but you can easily sort out your next car at Pentagon.

It’s an easy process that we help you with. Most Motability leases run for three years, starting from the date that you received your car. This date is noted down on your lease agreement, so keep that document safe.

Three months before your lease ends, you’ll receive a letter letting you know it’s time to choose your next car!

To order your next Motability car, you’ll need to have at least 12 months remaining of your mobility allowance remaining.

But don’t worry if you’ve got less than 12 months left, as we’re able to extend your current lease. Either way, you can stay on the Motability scheme.

There are a few things to consider as the final three months of your lease approach.

Three months before your Motability lease ends

Before you start thinking about your next Motability car, ask yourself if your current model served you well.

Did you find yourself wishing for more space inside? Would you rather a smaller car for easier driving and parking? Need more driving tech?

Whether you’re downsizing, upsizing or going for something more economical, there are plenty of brand new models to choose from!

Once you’ve chosen a car, get in touch with your local Pentagon dealership and we’ll sort the rest out for you.

We’ll help you place the order (over the phone or online in the case of lockdown), but before we do that you should make sure your DVLA details are up to date.

It usually takes a couple of days for your application to be cleared before we get the go-ahead from Motability.  We order your car when we receive the approved application - it’s that easy.

Two months before your Motability lease ends

We’ll be in touch with you two months before your current lease ends to arrange an MOT test. This is part of your Motability agreement so it’s vital to make sure your current car gets an MOT before being returned.

The full cost of the test, as well as any repairs needed from everyday wear and tear, are included as part of your lease. If you’ve taken care of your car, there’ll be no surprise costs.

COVID MOT extension: the government extended all MOTs expiring between 30th March & 31st July 2020 by six months. You’ll still need to take your Motability car for an MOT even if it was included in the extension. This can be done at any time during the six-month extension.

One month before your Motability lease ends

We’ll keep you updated with everything you need to know, including your expected delivery date. If there’s a delay in your delivery, we’ll arrange an extension on your current car.

You don’t have to remove any Motability adaptations, but if you want to swap them onto your next car, you can arrange this with an adaptation installer. Bear in mind that removing adaptations isn’t covered by your agreement so you’ll have to pay for any removal.

Collecting your new Motability car

On collection day, you need to bring your driving licence and the letter from Motability which includes your PIN.

You also need to bring your old vehicle to us, along with any vehicle documentation and equipment that came with the car. This may include:

• The handbook
• Spare keys
• Locking wheel nut keys
• Tyre inflation kit
• Radio codes
• Satnav SD cars
• Remote controls
• Parcel shelves
• Additional seats

Bring your car back in good condition and you’ll receive the Good Condition Bonus in the post a few weeks after you’ve returned it.

We’ll help you check over the car to make sure everything’s in order before you put in your PIN. If there are any discrepancies, we’ll work with you to sort it out.
