How To Take Home A Motability Car With Personal Independent Payments (PIPs)

Following the launch of the Motability scheme in 1977, it has become much easier for disabled people across the UK to enjoy the same kind of freedom that most able-bodied drivers take for granted.

  • What is PIP (Personal Independent Payments)?

    In 2013 the government began the process of creating a new system of disability benefits, replacing the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with Personal Independence Payments (PIPs) for people aged between 16 and 64.

    Can I Get a Car on PIP?

    PIPs come in two parts, a daily living component, and a mobility component. You'll receive either the standard or enhanced rate, but only people who qualify for the higher payment of the mobility component are eligible to join the Motability scheme.  

    It's important to note that PIPs represent a newer type of support and therefore not everyone who met the criteria for receiving the higher or enhanced rate of mobility allowance under the old DLA scheme will be eligible to receive the higher rate of benefit under the current system. Rates are assessed regularly to ensure that people are receiving the correct level of financial support based on their circumstances.

    I qualify for the enhanced rate – what now?

    Using your higher rate of PIP to join the Motability scheme is quick and easy with the help of Pentagon.     The great news is that leasing a vehicle through Motability from Pentagon means you won't need to worry about a thing. By exchanging all or part of your PIP you'll receive a new vehicle plus a 60,000-mile allowance every three years. Comprehensive insurance is included too, along with replacement tyres, windows, and windscreens when required, car breakdown cover provided by the RAC, plus servicing and maintenance.

    The Motability scheme has been designed to offer disabled people a convenient and affordable way to get mobile. You can rest easy knowing that there are no hidden costs associated with leasing a vehicle through Pentagon. There are hundreds of cars available that can be leased using the PIP alone.
