The All-New Mazda MX-5 Is Named Car Of The Year

After testing and reviewing hundreds of cars over the past year, the Mazda MX-5 has won the illustrious Car of the Year title at The Telegraph’s recent car awards.

• The Telegraph’s review of the MX-5 shows that the car performed particularly well in key areas such as the overall driving comfort, the dashboard layout, the ease of driving, and the car’s reliability. The overall running costs and affordability also played a pivotal role in the judges’ decision – which was illustrated by the MX-5 also winning the affordable sports car category at the awards. Furthermore, the Mazda MX-5 performed well on the road too, with one of the judges describing it as “one of the most enjoyable cars around”.

  As well as the two awards won at this ceremony, earlier this month the MX-5 also took home the Best Roadster Award at the Autocar New Car Awards.

Our judges all loved the way it delivers such back-to-basics simplicity without sacrificing any of the modern safety or connectivity that buyers expect.   Mazda Were Not The Only Winners…

  The Vauxhall Astra continues to perform well, with the new sports tourer model winning the Best Estate Car award. The Astra hatch also performed well in the family car category, finishing second behind the Skoda Superb in what is an incredibly competitive category.

  Another notable winner was the Nissan Qashqai which managed to win the coveted Best Mainstream SUV award, beating the likes of the Mazda CX-5 and Suzuki Vitara. The popularity of SUV crossover cars has grown exponentially over the last decade, so the fact that the Qashqai has won this award for the last couple of years demonstrates that it is a viable option for those seeking a practical and affordable SUV.
