All-New Mazda MX-30 BEV Revealed at Tokyo Motor Show

Mazda have shown off their all-new 100% electric car ahead of production starting in 2020

  • Mazda officially revealed and named the all-new Mazda MX-30 at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The all-new MX-30 will be the first ever all-electric vehicle (BEV) produced by Mazda when it enters production.

The MX-30 will come with a 35.5kWh battery located under the floor capable of offering a 125 mile range between charges. This battery is smaller than batteries found in some other BEVs which was a conscious choice by the Mazda design team in order to ensure the lifecycle environmental impact (which includes the production of the battery) is kept as low as possible; Mazda have also ensured that the MX-30 delivers a range much higher than an average daily commute.

  • The leader of the MX-30 project, Tomiko Takeuchi, explained that the company eschewed the one-pedal driving style which has been championed by other manufacturers to keep a driving experience which will be more familiar to drivers coming from a petrol or diesel ICE vehicle. Mr Takeuchi went on to describe how the low weight battery, rigid body and torque vectoring e-motor will mean the MX-30 has a dynamic and inspiring driving experience.

  • Mazda have chosen a crossover style platform for the new BEV - once again going against the grain where many manufacturers have leaned towards smaller hatchbacks or city cars to launch their electrification process – a decision made due to the belief that Mazda should maintain a consistent level of design and continue their Kodo philosophy rather than pursuing a new route just because the car is an EV, according to head of design Ikuo Maeda. The MX-30 features freestyle-suicide doors which remove the door pillar allowing easy access to the rear seats. These doors pay homage to the Mazda RX-8 from 2003.

Production of the all-new Mazda MX-30 will begin in spring 2020 ahead of release in early 2021. To register your interest in the MX-30 visit Pentagon Mazda in Lincoln or call on 0330 390 6849.
